A Hot interview with Justin Emsley of Hotprice

Justin Emsley is a Business management and Graphic Design Graduate who lives in Manchester, UK. He is the Managing Director of Hotprice an online retailer of gas and electric fires. Justin has previously been a high street retailer but his move to the online world has been both an interesting and sometimes challenging business decision. We spoke to Justin in June 2008 to get his take on trading online and the issues facing an online business in its first year.
We started by asking what projects he is currently working on.
Justin: We are constantly sourcing new ranges of gas and electric fires, we want to be able to give an unparalleled selection to our customers. We are particularly focusing on fires that are energy efficient as we believe this is going to become a major motivator in peoples selection criteria in the future.
Hotprice are in their first year of trading but Justin has big growth plans.
Justin: 2007-2008 is our first year trading online, but it has been a profitable time, we want to capitalise on this and have plans to move into the American market. America is a very large market and represents a huge potential for growth for Hotprice.
We asked him what he thought was the biggest problem facing his business today.
Justin: Unquestionably it is the constant talk of the ‘credit crunch’, this is understandably worrying homeowners which has a negative effect on all market sectors but particularly the retail sector, but it’s a challenge we have to face. In our industry it is not as bad as some industries linked more closely with the construction market. People are still spending some money but they are more choosy about who they spend it with, also people are renovating their homes instead of moving, so this gives us some respite.
What does he believe places his business in a strong position in the coming year.
Justin: Despite being a relatively new company, we are at the forefront of our industry due to the effort we have put into our website www.hotprice.co.uk. Not only are we providing competitively priced products we also provide a great source of information to people who are looking to buy.
We pride ourselves on our expert team who can offer honest, friendly and impartial advice on both design and technical questions.
And last but not least, we really value our customers. We work on a very simple business principle, if we can deliver products and services that totally delight you then you’ll tell other people about us and you’ll probably come and buy from us again.
